Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dimensions of the base?
The base has a diameter of 3.55m and a thickness of approximately 3-5cm, designed to fit perfectly within the GeoDomeX without expanding its footprint.
What is the base made from?
The base is made from a thermal EVA insulation layer, topped with varnished interconnected plywood panels, and includes a waterproof ground membrane underneath to completely seal the dome.
Is it suitable for wheelchairs?
The GeoDomeX is wheelchair accessible, with a possible 3 cm lip at the entrance depending on the ground type.
Can it be customised?
Yes, the base can be customised; it comes standard with a thick clear matte varnish, but you can sand and apply different stains, varnishes, or paints to your preference.
How is the dome anchored to the base?
GeoDomeX is anchored using 13 'L' shaped brackets that are screwed or pinned to the ground, depending on the ground surface, and the base slots over these brackets to provide a complete, stable structure.
Which ground types can it be used on?
The GeoDomeX base is suitable for both solid (like concrete, paving slabs, or decking) and softer grounds (such as grass or gravel). Ensure the area is level before installation, using screws for solid grounds and heavy-duty pins for softer surfaces.
Do I need planning permission?
GeoDomeX and its base are considered temporary structures in the UK and in nearly all cases does not require planning permission.
How is the base assembled?
The Insulated Modular Base is designed for easy self-assembly with a step-by-step guide. Components are numbered, and hexagonal panels are screwed together, typically taking 1-2 hours to assemble.
Do I need to be skilled to build the base?
Building the base is straightforward and requires no prior skills. Simple instructions and numbered, click-connect panels ensure easy assembly. You'll just need a drill or electric screwdriver and perhaps a rubber mallet.
Will the panels discolour in the sun?
Our panels are treated with a matte varnish that resists UV rays and external conditions, preventing discoloration and maintaining their appearance over time.
How do I clean and maintain the base?
To clean the base, simply sweep, vacuum, or wipe it down as you would with any wooden floor. The durable clear matte varnish finish ensures minimal upkeep and lasting resilience.
How is the base delivered?
The base is delivered on a pallet in stacked boxes due to its weight, allowing you to conveniently move each box to your assembly location.
